September 22, 2012OK ok. Im doing it. I have a 2005 cummins 4x4 with the NV5600 and 4.10:1 gears. It is so impossibly slow that im trading to an auto. Many people say im nuts, I say listen.... Iv never hooked to a trailer with it. I bomb around with an empty bed and no weight in it. The 6 speed just isnt there for me. I want speed and shifting every 3.5mph just gets old. Dont get me wrong i loved it but time for something that works better for me. Heres what i was wondering. Theres lots of forums about changing from an auto to manual, but what would it take to go manual to auto? I have a truck im trading with. Both trucks will be on the lift side by side i read thats the best way to do it. Same year trucks, same wheel base, same everything almost. what exactly needs to be changed? I know trans, bellhousing, crossmember, driveshafts, ecm and computer, collumn and that happy stuff but do i need to trade dashboards? Where the drive selector is on mine theres nothing (drive selector is the light up kind) i was wondering if dodge used a universal dash and until the trans and comp are in it wont light up? We have different mileage so we dont want to trade dash boards. Any info will b appreciated. P.S. people say the auto cant hold up. Im not out of pocket any money, and have another buddy who will drop trans and do work on it for free. Im not going to be beating it or boost launching but what would make it all around more reliable? I was thinking a torque converter prob dual or triple disc, having it rebuilt with all new clutches and whatnot and maybe a valve body. Any suggestions? Remember, i dont tow/haul, plow, boost launch or whatnot. I just want to be able to eat a burger when i drive and not have to steer with my leg cuz im constantly shifting. All that you`ve mentioned is all that`s needed.As far as column change, think about using aftermarket floor shift from Lokar or B&M floormounted floor shift,and put the OD button on the handle,lots of options,justa thought..
