November 30, 2011I am getting a vibration while driving. It starts at approx 25 and is most pronounced from ther uo to around 50. It doesn`t totally go away above that speed, but is less noticeable. I have already replaced the center and rear drive shaft u joints. The vibration is more prounced when decelerating in 30 mph area than anytime. Does not matter if truck is in drive or neutral or in 2 wd vs 4 wd. Truck is 2003 2500 4x4 w/ 5.9 auto

December 1, 2011I can not tell where it is coming from. I can really feel it threw the accelerator pedal.
December 1, 2011You need to pull the rear driveshaft and check the u-joints, they shouldn`t have any binds or be loose when you rotate them. This has to been done with the driveshaft out because you will hardley ever find a bad u-joint when the driveshaft is in the truck. That is your most common problem for vibrations.
December 1, 2011We just replaced the center and rear u joint. The front u joint seemed good. I will drop the shaft again and recheck though. Any other ideas if it is good?
December 1, 2011whoops read right over the part that you replaced the u-joints. Do you have mud/dirt on the inside of your rims? Whens the last time the tires were balanced? I would rotate the tires and see if that changes anything, or better yet, if you know somebody that have 8 lug tires, put them on your truck to see if the vibration goes away. Check your front driveshaft u-joints and check your front axle u-joints. Sometimes on the axel u-joints you can take a small pry bar and pry on the joint and see movement in the joint.
Who did the u-joints in the rear drive shaft?
December 1, 2011Another check,drive line angle, being that you took it out and see if by chance if the weight is still attached to the drive shaft.As Mopar Tech pointed out.It`s always the little over looked thing that cause problems.
December 1, 2011The u joints were changed by a Dodge dealer. I actually had the tires rotated at the same time. I checked the wheels for mud, but I am planning on having the wheels rechecked for balance. I checked the front axle u joints and they seemed good, but did not use a pry bar. I will check that also. I`ll check the drive shaft after the wheels.
December 2, 2011Wheeles were free of dirt and still in balance. What about the center driveshaft hager bearing? Would that cause vibration while driving? All the other u joints seem to check out ok. The cenetr hanger bearing is pretty spendy at $180.
December 2, 2011I would get the tires checked again for balance or rotate them and see if the vibration moves.
December 2, 2011I can`t understand why the tech that serviced your truck didn`t do a test drive and a physical inspection of the units,and yes the carrier bearing is a P>I A but you can get a one piece drive shaft and end the problem and of less expense than the carrier bearing....
