August 7, 2011I just installed a TBE, minimaxx and Egr and Cooler delete from Sinister on my 2011. I test drove the truck for about 15 miles and it drove beautiful. I noticed that the temp was going higher than normal and at one point hit 219 so I started to pull over and just then the temp slowly fell down to about 212 and stayed around there. Due to heavy traffic I decided to get the truck home to check everything instead of on the side of the road. I was concerned but not alarmed at the time of the higher temp because no lights or warnings came on and just assumed the Minimaxx was making the truck run a little hotter.
I checked the engine and notice coolant all over the passenger side and under the truck floor pans and step bars. The hose that connects the top engine to relief valve (the one supplied with the sinister kit)had disconnected.
I wished I would have just checked the engine immediately, but do you think I did any damage to the engine? Im not sure how much coolant was lost but noticed the reservoir tank was full until I connected the hose back, then it sucked all the fluid out. I also noticed later when I removed the radiator cap that there was a metallic sandy like sediment almost like a calcium like substance, but it did stick to my metallic pen. Is this something that is a sign of damage or is it just due to the new cooling system. The engine never overheated but Im concerned that maybe there was a hot pocket that maybe the temp sensor may not accurately detect. Also, why would the engine get up to about 220 the come down 210 and stay there for about 10 minutes till I got home if the coolant was lost?
Whats the antifreeze type to use, and how do I purge the system ? Overall do You think I did any damage? This has been bugging the heck out of me.
