September 6, 2009I don't know if this has been addressed but I have not been on here awhile. I Have a 98 Dakota with 5.2 V8 and was and other day I noticed my oil pressure gage was fluctuating back and forth as i accelerated or slowed down. Never noticed moving like that before is that normal or do I have an upcoming problem?
September 6, 2009how much is it fluctuating? It is perfectly normal for it to move a little, you will have higher pressure when accelerating than at idle
September 6, 2009between 30 and about 75 to 80 guessing by the needle movement.
September 6, 2009sounds perfectly normal to me
September 16, 2009My dak's do the same thing. But i've noticed that it varies with the type of oil you use.
October 16, 2009Yep, you`ll notice after an oil change the oil pressure will be a bit higher over all temp ranges. Type of oil (viscosity)related to the temp. is how i look at it. I can`t help to think the plenum problem would contribute to pressure or would that be just on the top half of the motor ?
October 16, 2009NORMAL...I have had 4 magnum motors. How many miles do you have on it? What oil do you use?
October 22, 2009Don`t forget to check your oil fill level. I had my pressures vary from idle to running one time when I was running a few quarts low. Top it off normally and it ran more consistent.
