August 19, 2009We went 4,000 miles round trip in May (to Nebraska/South Dakota) with Don's 2500 4x4 5.7. We have 5 speed manuals with 4:10 gears in the twins and we towed the Duster back from Nebraska. There was a lot of shifting involved but the truck was ok except for the leaking transfer case that we already paid Dodge $1250 to fix 3 years ago. Never had any "power" problems at all. I like Diesels but they make me ill.
October 7, 2009I pulled the 5ver in my pic through the flint hills in kansas on the turnpike going to the kansas nascar races. On the flats at 2800rpms i got 8mpg, up the hills at 5000rpms in droped to 3-5mpg all on the overhead computer. I still dont need a cummins. My truck will set in the garage untill the texas nascar race. i just rolled over 32000 miles. The Hemi sounds awsome passing big trucks. Cummins sound good to.
October 7, 2009I would have took the Diesel too.
November 11, 2009as long as its not a ford triton v8 5.4 i know a guy in town who has ford f350 crew cab long box with 8inch lift with 37 inch tires fricken gas job lol
January 26, 201013MPG pullin 17,500 lbs, Cross scales at 24k......why would i want to get 9mpg and do 30 mph up a pass in a hemi when i could do 65-70 up a pass and get 13mpg......cummins for me
March 5, 2010You made the right choice buying the diesel. Diesel engines rather tow than be empty. Congrats and enjoy.
March 7, 2010Congrats on the diesel you won`t be disappointed.Drive it like you stole it!!!!!Now you can blow black smoke on convertibles!!!!!
June 6, 2010i realy enjoyed this topic. i love my HEMI but am debating on a cummins in the next year or so.. dont realy do any pulling but the performance options out there for the cummins is so much greater then the gas... important thing is i love my DODGE....
January 20, 2011I have had to tow from time to time and I like the Cummins for towing. with all due respect the Hemi can get the job done but the Cummins does it better. I got 6 to 7 mpg pulling a 27 foot camper with my Hemi and I was constantly concerned with trans temp and the down-shifting in the mountains (no problem but I was still watching it carefuly). My next truck will more than likely be a Cummins. A friend of mine`s 94 3500 dually "farm truck" may not look like much it has over 340K on the OD
