December 31, 2005I'm lookin to get a new intake for my 4.7 Dakota. Any suggestions? What do you all feel is the best?
January 4, 2006The K&N FIPK should do pretty well..
January 14, 2006id agree with the K&N intake on that. worked good when i had mine installed. sittin in my basment now, to bad u dont have a 5.9 id sell mine to you. but whateva intake you go with dont expect crazy hp gains out of it, cai's dont give that much.
January 15, 2006I'm not looking for a ton of gains from it. I just put on a new magnaflow exhaust, so I figured this should be my next mod. Why did you take the K&N off?
January 15, 2006i plan to get a cai for my 4.7 and from what ive hurd is the k&n fipk and the airaid seem pretty good. i dont think they make one yet for the 4.7 but my friend has a aem brute force for his chevy and it was pretty nice everything was built good and the install was easy.
January 15, 2006He probly put a 'charger on..
I've made my own CAI, pretty easy and made it for less than half the price of the K&N..
January 15, 2006I've heard the AEM is a good one.
January 15, 2006I wanted an AEM, but they don't make one for Dakotas yet. I think they might make them for the 5.9, but not for the 4.7.
So far the only ones that make one for the 4.7 are K&N, Volant, and I think Airaid. I've heard good and bad things about all of them, so I'm not sure which direction to go. So far it seems like people like K&N best.
January 15, 2006Yeah, i'm kind of pissed that they don't make them for the 04 4.7.

January 15, 2006I HAD a K&N on my '03 4.7, and thought it was a waste of money. I've got it in a box down in my basement now. The only increase that I noticed with it, was an increase in noise from the open filter element. I noticed no increase in power at all. This was after I had done a Cat-Back exhaust also. I thought the parts that came with the kit were just a few parts that they threw together that happended to fit the truck, sort of an afterthought. Nothing designed specifically for this truck. I had to drill a hole in the air tube for the temperature sensor, they didn't provide that for anyone.
I did notice a big difference after I put on an Intense Performance Z-Tube. Unfortunately, he's not making them right now. But this is a much better system. Plus, it's a Ram Air design. From 60 to 90mph my truck pulls just as good, if not better, than 30 to 60mph.
January 16, 2006I have a K&N FIPK in my 5.2 Dakota. I love it. Bumped my highway mileage up a bit. And dont forget the sound! K&N also has great customer service. My intake tube cracked and they replaced it free of charge, no questions asked. They shipped it on the 12th and I got it today, very fast for it coming to Canada. Very good product. Hope this helps you.
