I`m not necessarily in great shape right now since I am coming out of winter inactivity (haven`t really done much hard working out since last fall). But by time this race rolls around I should be good to go - I hope. Right now, I run 3-4 miles once or twice a week, and hit the gym a couple of times a week. I need to start stepping it up though so i`m ready by Aug. I need to start doing more trail runs and hitting the incline in Manitou about once a week. As I get closer to Elk season, I start working out with my pack on and load it to about 25 lbs. If I can do this race, I know I can chase elk up and down the high alt ridges.
I had really wanted to do the Tough Mudder.
Its course is like 12-14 miles, and was designed by British Special Forces or something like that. It`s crazy. You have to run through fire and smoke. One part of the course has a field of electrodes you have to run through. Some have mild shocks to them, others will drop you to your knees. Problem with that race though is you have to be able to swim, and I suck at swimming. So i`m just going to do the Warrior Dash instead.
Another good one is called the Muddy Buddy. It`s a two person team race where one person starts out on a bike and the other is running, and you alternate at each obstacle. I know a team that did it last year, and their bike chain broke because of all the mud that got in it, and they had to carry the bike the rest of the race. That would suck.
