June 13, 2006I noticed about a 2 mpg increase.
either a cover or a shell should get a little better mileage.
June 13, 2006Yeah, I would assume that it would be better with one, Unless its heavy, then probably not much of a gain then.
June 13, 2006I didn't notice much, but then again, I have a heavy foot.
June 15, 2006makes a slight difference on my dakota when i had the tonu on and when i had it off
June 15, 2006Yeah you'll notice a slight increase, but I don't think your reason for spending $600 - $1000 on a bedcover, should be for MPG... I did it for looks mostly, although you could always go with a vinyl bedcover for alot cheaper...
June 25, 2006oddly enough, I saw a Mythbusters repeat this weekend where they took 2 Ford F-150's that were identical in options and everything with the exception that one had a cover on it and the other did not. They filled both thanks completely and drove them the exact same (one followed the other). The one w/o the cover went 1 1/2 miles further or something like that. They then did a wind tunnel test and found that w/o a cover the wind comes over the cab of the truck and then swirls in the bed creating a vortex that the rest of the wind coming over the cab simply flows over and doesn't meet any resistance. Just a funny fyi, they said that the results were inconclusive as to if an individual would actually save gas w/ a cover but it would doubtful they would. I love that show!!!
June 25, 2006By the way I think that Myth buster test was with tailgate up or down.
Any who when I had my cap on and no lift or tires I could honestly say I saw 16-17 mpg no lie! But since the mods I'm lucky to get 15 so I’m a believer in caps and covers
June 27, 2006i got a leer 700 series fiberglass one for looks and to keep stuff closed in my bed and i noticed a slight difference in mpg, but nothing to brag about. i love my cover, would highly recommend the leer, but it is pricey.
June 29, 2006Yes, it should help with gas mileage...With a previous truck I owned, it gained me atleast 2mpg.
With the Dodge, I honestly don't know because I bought the tonneau when I bought the truck.
My tonneau cover is a soft one and only cost me $100.
